Abstract

|
|
A total of 1,335 cases underwent operation at the cardiovascular and thoracic department at Sejong Hospital during the year of 2,000. In cardiovascular cases, there were 815cases undergoing open heart surgery and 192cases without a cardiopulmonary bypass. Of 815caeses undergoing open heart surgery, 521cases were operated on for congenital heart disease and 293cases were operated on for acquired heart disease. A group of patients with acquired heart disease consisted of 176cases with valvular heart disease, 165 with ischemic heart disease, 55 with aortic disease, and 9 with other cardiac lesions.
Total 25 patients died after surgery with the overall operative mortality rate of 1.9%. The operative mortality rate of open heart surgery was 2.1%. The operative mortality rate of congenital heart disease was 2.0%(12/601), and acquired heart diseaes was 3.0%(12/405).
